People Matter - Number Four Of An Occasional Series - Mark

Sometimes people are exactly as they seem.

Rare, in my experience, but it can happen.

Mark is one of those people.

When you first meet him you just know that he is decent and kind. He genuinely wants to know how you are and asks questions, actively listening to everything that you share with him.

And this is all done in an accepting and non-judgemental way, refreshing in an age where so many seem to have an agenda and are always thinking about what they want to say next.

Mark clearly cares and he helps out others, friends and even complete strangers at times, whenever he feels that it might be required. I have known Mark to help out with his local foodbank, to shop for elderly neighbours and to sometimes take time to feed the swans on the river, just because he can.

Needless to say he is modest about all of this and also his many talents and skills. It would be easy to feel just a little inadequate around Mark at times as a result, but often I find the opposite, that people are actually motivated by hearing of his exploits rather than anything else.

And anyone that inspires others has to be applauded, don’t they?
